NORWAY 2013 EU-079 group – story

Hi All,

As since few years, beginning of June the biggest event for us-
- The Island Festival -

This year our destination is EU-079 group of islands.

The journey has started early morning (5:30am) on 30th of May. Our ferry to Sweden has started at 9:00

After 10 hours Sweden have been reached. We were surprised long procedure at the harbor but over 90% of drivers was checked with using of alco tester – good practice in our opinion.

We have reached Slawek’s family city before midnight and after long night – 3,5 hrs. only, we have started next part of our journey. Distance 1035 km’s we made in 13,5 hrs. changing driver during trip.

Fortunately we have arrived to the harbor 10 minutes before ferry departure and after 30 minutes we have got Kvamsoy island where our car was unloaded, then using boat of cottage owner we have reached Storholmen island-our base station will be placed on this island.

After so long trip we have installed very quick all equipment-this time with BV-2001 new amplifier, to be ready to take part in 2013 island Festival. For 1st shift by microphone Greg was responsible. During night he has logged only few stations.

Little better situation during my shift started early morning. Propagation was not so good whole day, the same with WX.

Whole day heavy rain and strong wind. Plan for Saturday was to stay in our base station, next day-Sunday we have planned to be active from other 3 islands:

Voksa – EU-079
Maroyna - EU N/V
Flatoya - EU N/V

Early morning the same situation with weather ( during night no any changes ). No any other solution and we took decision to stay in base location at Storholmen continuing activation as 20DX/SI.

We are finish Festival from one location only with not bad result 300+ logged stations.

Next day we have planned to activate another – new ones islands in EU-079 group.

Hopefully propagation will be little better for us.

June, 5th time to start the rest of DXRC official activations.
We have started early morning and immediately after getting on Voksa island Greg has started activation.

The island is not so big, we have changed 2 times location to get better condition to transmit.

After 2 hours of activation next destination was Flatoy island 20DX/FI. Main entrance to the island was little blocked, probably is in private ownership, but we have found maybe not so good location between trees.

After 1,5hrs only little over 10 stations was successfully logged.

Next island Maroy – 20DX/MI was 1 minute by car from Flatoy.

We have spent good time with beautiful weather. After 2,5hrs once again not good result little over 15 stations logged. The rest of day we were active in short periods with portable call sign.

The same with other days, in total we have visited over 20 islands, trying to be active even for short period from all, but propagation was not so good.

General opinion – we have spent good time in Norway, on islands from EU-079 group.

Thank you very much to all, logged and not logged stations for their patience.

Our big thanks goes as always to Darran and this time to 161AT127 Jack for his support too.

Best regards, 73’s

Greg and Slawek
