47DX/FY009 - Lyoe Island EU-172

LYØ island, story:

On way to Avernakø island to activate Avernakø and Korshavn with my friends 47DX109 Jesper and 47DX054 Leif I had a “stop over” for 3 hours at Lyø (Lyoe island) which gave me a good chance to activate this island.

Via Google Earth I found a nice spot on the south part of the island, facing south west, just 5 meters from the sea front. This was a perfect place to stay for 3 hours.

Just after entering the island by the Ferry I stopped at the Harbour and took a few photos of some local landmarks and signs. Entering the car again I SMS’d Darran 26DX047 to inform him that I now was at Lyo island and was heading for my DX/TX-spot.

Darran replied back proposing a frequency and we established contact via radio – with good signals. Then, at least, one station was in log. I chatted with Darran crossing the island, on the 3 km trip from the Harbour in North to the DX-spot chosen at the South.
After the antenna was erected I “officially“ began the activation at 9:00 GMT (11:00 local time).
As seen many times during this years e-skip season propagation was not as good as I hoped and despite hundreds of “CQ’s” and a great DX-spot I only managed to work 40 stations from 9 DXCC’s (all Europe):

1 - Italy: 4 log entries
13 - Germany: 1 log entries
14 – France: 13 log entries
19 – Holland: 4 log entries
26 – England: 3 log entries
47 – Denmark: 7 log entries
108 – Scotland: 1 log entries
161 – Poland: 6 log entries
327 – Slovenia: 1 log entries

Due to no propagation at middle of the day I left my TX-site and did some sight seeing at the island. And what a fantastic island givng stunning views, nature, wild life, and a community as in the 60ties.
If I ever have to leave my home, I would love to move to Lyø!!

During sight seeing I spoke via ground wave with Jesper 47DX109 from his mobile, Jesper was on way to Avernakø island where we had rende-vous at 15:00 GMT. Jesper, now you can see why I so often said: "stand by, I must take a photo" :-)

I left Lyø via the Ferry at 12:40 GMT (14.40 local) heading for Avernakø - enriched after a great stay at Lyø island.

Back.
