Activity operation

Here you find Guidelines explaining about how to run an activity.
The purpose of these Guidelines are to give you high freedom to choose as you like, however also to secure highest possible standards, in order not to compromise the club.

Pile-up

1: Pile-up Management:
If many stations are calling you at the same time, then you have a pile-up. To handle the pile-up in best possible way, you most likely need some experience, besides you need to know these tricks:
- It it YOUR pile-up. YOU are in charge, YOU are the Boss of your Pile-Up.
- The more you are in control of your pile-up, the more respect you gain.
- The emmidiate effect is that all people do what you ask them to, most important: They do only call when you ask them to.

2: Valid Two Way QSO:
It is vitally important that only valid two way QSOs are logged, if your main task is to give as many persons a chance to work you as possible, then you must keep contacts short and quick. A quick, and valid contact goes like this:
- ".... QRZ"?
- pile up is calling - you pick up one callsign (example: 26TC001)
- you say: "26TC001 you are 5/9"
- Only 26TC001 replies: "Thanks this is 26TC001, you are also 5/9"
- You reply: "Thanks for 5/9, 73. QRZ?"

- pile up is calling - you pick up one callsign (example: 13DX101)
- you say: "13DX101 you are 5/5"
- Only 13DX101 replies: "Thanks for 5/5, you are 5/9 from 13DX101"
- You reply: "Thanks for 5/9, you are 5/5 and in the log 73. QRZ?"

QRZ?

1: Discipline on Frequency:
If you ONLY take in stations after you say "QRZ" then stations will quickly learn that it is useless to call at other times.
When you are ready to take the next station, always end your sentence with "QRZ", do not say "... Thanks for contact QRZ, this is 184DX/1". Instead say: ... Thanks for contact. This is 184DX/1, QRZ?"

If a station keeps calling you at during your QSO, then this station clearly hasn't learned anything about QSO technique. However, you have 2 possibilities:
- He is unpolite, dont understand QSO-technique and shows no respect. Do not take him in, he will call and call and keep irritate you and others on frequency.
- He is unpolite, dont understand QSO-technique and shows no respect. Yes, for sure - but the sooner you work him , the sooner he is gone.
If you experience only few of these persons, then we suggest you to work them as soon as possible.

Signal & Radio Reports

1: Readability and Signal report exchange:
When giving reports, we accept that you give reports in 3 different ways:
- take a reading from the S-meter - and give that report: This is the most correct way, but very slow and this method will slow down your QSO-rate to only half speed or less. It is OK not to use this model.
- Give all stations 5/9
- Give one of 3 Standard reports: 5/1 = Weak, 5/5 = Medium signal, 5/9 = strong signal.
If strong pile-up, most stations are strong and you give 5/9 to most.

10 Golden Tips about operating your station

1. Always be professional and polite

2. Manage pile-up to promote good operating standards

3. Do not encourage QRM makers

4. use "QRZ" at end of call when asking for next station

5. Use "logsystem" Readability and Signal report exchange ( not prog n#s)

6. Only log stations after a valid 2 way QSO (report exchange). One-way contacts must not be logged

7. We recommend the operators to give the full QSL-route (managers address) on air, at least 3 times every hour. This is to secure that the address is public for all, not only those having internet-connection.

8. when pileup is big, consider working split, if in split operation, always "listen up"

9. in split operation, listen 10kc up or more ( 3 or 5kc split is difficult for operators with CB / channel change transceivers)

10. give opportunity for other Continents to work activity

Friends, Guests etc.
When you run an activity, you can always have company from friends, wife, girlfriend etc. They might be members of Delta-Xray Radio Club - or not.

Please notice a few Guidelines, in case you want them to operate the radio.

* For stations active in Group 1-DXCC's and Group 2-DXCC's:
We recommend all operators of an DXRC-activation to be DXRC-members.

* For stations active in Group 3-DXCC's:
There has to be one DXRC-member present, and he/she will have the responsibility for the station and the activity.
It could be a wife/girlfriend/close friend (etc.) activating the radio, and the responsible member must see to, that the station is operated with the highest standards, as expected from DXRC.

See the DXCC-list, sorted in groups (Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3) click here.
