Photo Technique

At this page you will find help and tips to take good quality photos.

Photo technique:
When taking photos, it is important to follow a few basic techniques to help secure a decent quality image, it is no use taking a pic of an important landmark or GPS instrument if the image is out of focus or unrecognizable, we often see very blurred pictures, and even from time to time pictures where we cannot read the coordinates from the GPS.

Most cameras have a minimum distance to the object to get a sharp picture. The minimum distance is often around 20-40 cm. This means that if you take a picture and you are closer than this distance to the object, the photograph will come out blurred.

These tips will help you gain good, sharp quality photos of those all important pictures :

- Always try to have the sun in your back ( person using camera )
- never take a picture with sun in background of object being photographed
- GPS, where possible, lay the GPS on the ground or up against something so the camera cannot focus on anything else but the GPS
- if taking a pic of something close, set distance from camera to object around 20 - 40 cm
- if taking a pic of something close, try setting camera to macro mode

Basic things can sometimes be overlooked:
- make sure camera battery is fully charged
- take spare batteries
- when collecting proofs, take more than one photo of an all important landmark, signpost or GPS coordinates, better to have 2 or 3 photos of same object to choose from than to have one bad photo out of focus
- make yourself familiar with the camera before the activation, practice at home taking different type of pictures

Remember, proofs are vitally important, It is better to work only 1 station and have great proofs than to work 100 stations and have bad proofs.
