Story 14DX/23008L Vergnolas Isl - IWI
Story from 14DX/23008L activity.Hi to all, Started around 06:00 GMT with 5°c and cloudy sky, around 50 minutes travelling and I arrive near lake and WX is no better with some wind from south. Anyway after crossing with rain I land on the island and install quickly small tent to keep the transceiver dry. After I install antenna quickly around 4m above ground just near water. I connect coaxial to RTX and just a big silence but strangely no qrm and wind and rain still continue. I take a look at antenna and coaxial connection and start to cq on 555 qsy 585. Some first low voices coming out of the silence, groundwave from west and north France, also good signal from England with 047 Darran being 5/5, the only station in log from England, and again north France. Finally copy 47 div and signal coming up with 5/7 from John 101 being the only station in log from Denmark. Around 11:00 gmt with the sun back & propagation turned to south with E spoaric from 1, 165, 31 and 30 div, but really unstable conditions with deep & heavy QSB, time to time I turn antenna to north, East and west and had chance to copy Mark 026 from 19 div and Merry 079 from France. I turned again to south an listen 44 div 5/5 on 555. I qo 555 qsy 585 and 74LD101 with solid 5/7 - 5/9. Last in log was 14AT119 from Brittany via backscatter. Around 45 minutes or so of silence I decided to QRT. See you from next island... 73’s from 14DX181 Marc iwi-man return |
