Story 14DX/AT020 ![]() After the successfull activation from Ré island I decide to plan yet another trip to an Atlantic island. Several different islands was possible to choose from, but the decision was finally Nourmoutier. After arriving to the island via the bridge, I noticed the Tourist office on the right hand side after a few km. of driving. Visiting - and getting a Map over the island... Coming out of the Tourist Office I noticed that next to the Tourist Office there was all I needed: A good parking place, a tree to place the antenna up against, and no cars or persons close by. Perfect. Short time after I began the transmissions and was active for approx. 4 hours. Did work 116 stations from 20 DXCC’s (1, 2, 3, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 29, 30, 31 ,35, 47, 49, 68, 108, 161, 163, 347). After ending at 18:00 local time, I did spend some tome to drive around the island. Then, when it was time to leave the island, I decided to check out “le Gois de Noirmoutier", a 4 km long road on the sea bed that can be used only when it is low tide. Never try to take this short cut when the sea is raising, to be caught in the raising water is fatal, at least for your car while you seak to higher grounds at one of the many poles placed strategically next to the road. After coming back to mainland Europe – safely and with a dry car – some coffee was enjoyed at the restaurant 2 meters from the Ocean overviewing the raising water and the last cars crossing the road before water was too high for crossing for the following hours. A spectacular experience, simple, logical and have always been there – but fantastic to watch while the sun did set over the ocean... WOW. return |
