Story 26DX/L003

Story from 26DX/L003 activity.

Finally Bill 26DX059 agreed to vacate the comfort of his armchair and accompany us on an inland water island activation, a quick search on IBO resulted in our target choice, Sawley isl with local reference number L-003.

Bill is experienced in portable work, most of solar cycle 23 Bill could be found on high ground transmitting portable, so Bill was in charge of antennas for this activation with Sean being demoted to apprentice, 3 el yagi would be used.

Antenna was erected and ready by 08:25utc, after collecting proofs, 26DX/L003 was on air with good band conditions.

1st in log was John 101 quickly followed by 43SD280 Jordan, most of EU was worked via BackScatter, we heard a weak station from the Canary islands, so the beam was rotated in that direction, not long after we had a call from Gary 43ET143 which we worked long path.

Weather was surprising very pleasant, we had a very enjoyable morning working friends from 5 Continents, in-between log entries Bill kept us supplied with Bacon sandwiches and lashing of hot tea, cheers mate !

Previously, a few days before I briefly mentioned to Bill that there was a little tiny island at the Eastern tip of Sawley island, anyway come late morning Bill started to ask questions about this tiny island called " Little Sawley ", I mentioned it was only 5 minutes walk away, Sean agreed to stay with equipment and take some more pics for proofs, so 26DX/L003 was QRX while Bill and I had a look at L-010 Little Sawley. 20 minutes after we returned and L003 was back on air.

After working some North American friends, we decided to activate Little Sawley with callsign 26DX/L010, sms messages were sent to Soren 002 & John 101, moments later info was online and info was sent to the 11m community, great teamwork, thanks guys.

Just after mid-day 26DX/L003 was QRT, last in log was our good friend 161DX016 MaC, in total 109 stations in log..

We'd just like to close by thanking Twan 19DX056 which was also active the same morning as 19DX/LB002 from Kessel island, Twan called numerous times to ask how we were getting on and general chit-chat in-between the pileups, cheers mate.

Ok, thanks to all which called in.

73 de..Darran, Bill and Sean.
