Story 30DX401/P
Story from 30DX401/P activity. After a failed attempt back in 2009 to get to the islands, now it was about time to try again. The lighthouse works were completed and I knew for a fact that several teams of biologists, scientist teams had had access to it. So I submitted the application and after a few emails and several months, we got the authorisation to go. Also, I wanted to dedicate this expedition to Annet, Tom's 052 wife who passed away last month. I think this was the least gesture I could make for my beloved friend Tom. Reaching the islands is not easy. You must charter a boat (which price is obviously not cheap) and the trip from the nearest place takes between 2'30 to 3 hours, depending on weather and sea conditions...which by the way were usually bad while we were there, due to strong winds. As a result to that we got stranded for about 3 extra days... For all these mentioned reasons,...apart from the LACK OF PROOFS, I really doubt there has ever been a real activation from this IOTA group in the past...despite of the several previous expeditions listed on IBO. This is of course up to your own conclusion, wether to believe or not believe. I set up the bamby out of a window (see picture), but after one day very strong winds raised up and the pole broke unavoidably....so I decided to take the bamby wire off the poles structure and brought it up to the top of the lighthouse, where I would tie it at the railings and a little aluminium mast I had. There it remained until the end... But the QRT happened much earlier than expected,...after reading a public comment from a fellow 30-division operator announcing my specific location together with other extra comments, which I believe were intentionally made to jeopardise the expedition, since I have already had many discussions in the past with his fellow radio club members from his region when I published and demonstrated fake activations from another person from this region. So, after more than 100 QSOs I was already satisfied to put another island on the air and went QRT immediately. Many thanks and congratulations to all who worked me. Best 73 30DX401 return |
