Story 47DX/NJ003

Story from 47DX/NJ003 activity.

My girlfriend and I decided to visit some family in the north part of Jutland. We then decided that it could be fun to activate Fur Island. And make a trip out of it and see the small island.

On the 3 of July 9, 2013 we drove from our family’s QTH about 12:00 local time. And arrived Fur aprox. 13:15 local time. We made the first stop at the local supermarket to buy some refreshments and snacks for the time we planned to spend on the island.

After buying some refreshments, we sat down to look at a map to find a good location to camp for the day and to do some DX. From home we had discovered that the highest point on the island should be a hill called “Bette Jensen Hyw” which in English I think means “Small Mr. Jensen’s Hill”.

Nearby there was gravel pit which is also seen on the photos. In fact we parked in the middle of it. We made camp at about 13:55 local time, and made the first call 14:10 local time. First in the log, and a big surprise was Mr. Soren, 47DX002, maybe a very short skip with 280km between us. ;) at least we think so.

The first hour or so, we put some 30 operators in the log. Then the propagation went a little bit down. So we decided to have a small lunch while listening on the radio and hoped that the propagation would rise a little again. Hopefully it did.

Between calling CQ on the radio, we made a small break and drove off to see some of the island. And also to take a closer look on the gravel pit which was very interesting scenery. In all very beautiful island on a sunny day!

After some driving around on the island and taking some pictures for our private photo’s collection and some proff. pictures. After some time and looking around, We went back at the same location and a total of 86 operators made it in to the log.

At aprox. 19:00 local time, we decided to wrap it up and leave the island. The propagation also went down.

My girlfriend and me had a great time. The very first activation for my girlfriend and surely not the last, well I sure hope so. :)
