Story 47DX/SJ048

Story from 47DX/SJ048 activity.

The Story from Langoe island (Langø) 47DX/SJ048.

With Niko and family visiting the country I had 2 islands planned for us. To go back to lilleoe island and make "part 2". I was on Lilleoe island 2 weeks ago and knew this was a hard one, but with experience in backhand knew it would be hard - but still a success.

Though, good summer weather was needed, and with last weeks weather forecast in mind: RAIN, rain and rain, the back up-activity was much more easy: The last island in "Bøgestrømmen" bridged and not yet activated: Langoe island (Langø).
The only "problem" with this island is that its a privately owned island with many wild animals (deer, rabbits, ducks etc.) and heavily used for hunting. Therefore we could expext that asking would give us a "no, stay away"-reply - simply just not to interfere with the breeding of all the animals.

Langoe island is approx. 1.000 meters long, 200 meters wide and it has a bridge (25 meters) and a dam (200 meters) to Sealand island.
Owned by a agricultural compagny which earns most money by offering hunting. There is only 1 road on the island, so its not really easy to hide if another car comes by...

Anyway, we went to the island, stopped before the dam/bridge and took a few pics. It was raining so the stop was a quick-stop.
We discussed if we should use the cellphone and call for permission or just go over and ring the doorbell and ask.

Arriving to the island we noticed that the owners house was with quite a distance to the road and with many trees between us and the house. He would probably not see us, so we drove by - hoping for equal luck when meeting the next 2 houses, or then ask for permission.

Next house was behind a barn, so again LUCK - and we drove by... Now only one house to go: The hunter on the island !!
Well, there was no car in front of the house, so we slowly drove by also his house, hoping that he was on Sealand island and not on the other end of the island - then we would meet him shortly.

After passing the 3 houses - well, thresspassing it would be - we continued on the dirt road the 800 meters to the south east end of the island. Driving slowly not to hit any animals, we say: deer, rabbit and phasan (see pics) driving the 800 meters to a point near the ocean. Here Niko emmidiately began to call and log stations on the mobile antenna while Soren went out (in the rain) to raise the Bamby11.
Callsign was as checked before leaving: 47DX/SJ048.

The Bamby was raise up againts a nice tree and and the pole was extended to max. height: 12 meters. Wind was rough, but more fun than the rain which kept pouring down. Obviously no problem to Niko since we was sitting nicely and dry in the car with the mic in his hand :-)
We changed the antenna cables and continued...

Suddenly Darran called us on the radio and told us that there was some confusion with the island reference number and our activity callsign, checking the IBO site Langoe island showed up as not SJ048, but SJ030. So we changed callsign and kept working.

During the first hour propagation was low to medium. After 2 hours we were very close to STOP due to low propagation, but thankfully Niko did kept fighting and suddenly propagation changed and the last hour was very good.

First stations in log: 26WAC132 (16:15) , 14ET103 and 14AT108, last stations in log: 14DA115, 14EE092 and 14RD067 (19:24). Activity began 16:15 and ended 19:24.. Nice surprice we worked 80MZ010 and 3DA012 - with huge smiles on our faces.

Well, time ran and at 21:24 we worked the last station. Wind had picked up to 12-15 meters/second, rain was even stronger, and I was still wet after errecting antennas 3 hours earlier, so I offered to take down the antenna...
After no time of negotiation - Nice very quickly accepted my offer - I went out to disassembling...

Well, this was easier said than done!!!
Rain poured down, wind was almost storm (at least it felt like storm), it was dark - and the antenna was stuck in the tree. After 15 minutes of struggling Niko came out "What are you doing out here in the rain?", he asked :-)
Well, we both struggled, but the wire from the Bamby was totally stuck in the branches of the tree. After 2 minutes we gave up and decided to leave the pole, antenna and cable on spot... We could not release it!!
(Have to come back Monday in daylight and less wind for yet another try)
Well, now leaving the antennas behind, we drove slowly towards the dam and bridge for safe return to Sealand island - but had to pass 3 houses on an extemely narrow gravel road (which easily could be block by a car), and some gates which hopefully was still OPEN.

We managed not to hit any animals on the way towards Sealand island, no cards blocked the road and the gates was open. We were SAFE on Sealand island again.
After 500 meters of drive we saw the result of the heavy rain: 10-15 cm of water on the roads several places and many broken chanched from the trees on the roads, but we managed to get safely home, happy, tired and hungry :-)

We can only say: "WE WILL COME BACK" - well, soon... - to get the antenna.

We would had appreciated an acceptance for the stay on the island, if we asked we could likely had got a "no" due to the reason "Bird protection".
We decided to "take a chance" - and hoping for a safe return. We succeeded and was happy for this.
Tresspasing is of course not OK, neither is using some special frequencies. But its FUN.

Hope soon to hear you again.

Greetings
Niko (13DX028) and Soren (47DX002)

Attention:
We activated Langoe island between Sealand island and Moen island. Whatever callsign we used or should had used, if you have worked us and you are in our log we will confirm Langoe island for you - whataver callsign we should use/had used.
Sorry for the mess about callsigns and congratulations with your new island.
