Story 49/26DX047

Story from 49/26DX047 activity.

Myself and the family holidayed again at the picturesque resort of Portinatx on the island of iBIZA.

On the out going flight there was a slight problem with airport security, apparently the iCOM 706 in my hand luggage set off all sorts of alarm bells, after lengthly chats with two seperate airport security managers, all was ok once a cept license was produced.

On arriving at the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised that my request for a top floor appartment had been granted, the receptionist had remembered my surname and request from a couple of years previous, it turned out that I had been allocated the exact same appartment 35-3/A.

After unpacking and then returning to the appartment after some lunch, Sean and I started unpacking and assembling the simple 5/8 vertical, the antenna was selotaped to the exact same balcony railing, in fact Sean removed some of my selotape from the balcony railings from our previous activity, within a few minutes 49/26DX047 was once again on air, first in the log this time was Olivier 14DX010.

Over all prop was ok, some days I was lucky to have an healthy pileup, on the odd day the band was very quiet, as in previous years it was handy to have the equipment set up in the appartment to monitor propagation and plan the best time of the day to plan activities from coastal islands, as expected prop in the early evenings seemed to be the most reliable.

Just shy of 200 stations where logged from the appartment, most days I had regular call's from friends asking how the holiday was going, thanks for the chats guys.

On my return flight home once again I had a minor problem with airport security, this time it was at the Spanish end, after my hand luggage went through the metal scanner I was asked to open the iCOM 706 box, the Spanish security Officer asked to see the object highlighed on his scanner screen, it turned out that I had by mistake left a small screwdriver in the iCOM box, I usually put all tools in the antenna box, but I'd forgot to take the screwdriver out of my hand luggage, the security guy said it was not possible to fly with a screwdriver in my hand luggage, I totally agreed and apologized, minus one screwdriver I was allowed through.

After 14 days of a very enjoyable holiday and beautiful sunshine, time had come to return back to rainy England.

Where to for our next holiday ?, a Greek island ?, maybe Croatia, those and more have already been discussed, after a few days back in blighty, and return to iBIZA could well be on the cards.
