Story 75TSW/AZ002
Story from 75TSW/AZ002 activity. No matter how many years you spend away from 11 meters, is like you just had a contact yesterday. Still, being away from air waves for years, we get the news about propagation here ad there. Internet, is a great via for that, occasionally a spot from 75 division drops into the mail box. What also drops into the mail box is some good old friend's feedback. Once again got an alert from the DX Shadow only white haired man, hi, spreading the word about Island Festival, and how it was going to be this year. Honestly, the availability was null. Gathering at John's QTH, 75DT101, the subject came up and it didn't took long to decide that it would be nice to spend a night at the most famous lake of Azores, than doing it at the pub! So the rest is history. The old crazy team prepared the logistic in just a few days, and the minute we notice, we were there. Propagation is in fact opening and being over 400m high also helped a lot. We were barefoot the hole time. The main antenna was a 5/8 wave old vertical, refurbished. Backup antennas were a wire dipole and a k40 mobile. We logged over 290 stations, including some of the Island stations. During the night a few SA signals came through, West Indies, and surprisingly, or sporadically, a few EU. It was impossible to be active for the hole 48 hours, but still we think we did a great job and most of all, we had fun, a lot of it! We wish to congratulate the groups and people that insist or persist into change the 11 meter "world", being away from it for a few years and coming back in such short notice, its really nice to see that the "good ones" keep fighting for it! Best 73 from John, Bruno and Rick. return |
